South London Event Photography

Bijal hired me to photograph her wedding. As part of an Indian wedding there are many events that take place. Khoro is where the bride has her ‘Ganesh Puja’ ceremony together with a fragrant, yellow paste that family members apply to the brides face, arms and legs.

If you love it, print it!

Why Printing is Important

If you love a photograph, print it!

Why printing is important – I have had many discussions, with photographers, friends & clients. I am amazed at how an equal number of all these people think that keeping photographs in the ‘bit’ format (digitally) will preserve the precious memories for years to come (some argue longer than printed). I disagree, I think it’s important to print photographs if you want to keep or treasure them. In the race to have the latest, largest, fastest most convinient storage medium we are loosing the ability to recover the stored data.

I tried pointing out from my personal experience how the ever changing format of the stored image meant that files from 14yrs ago can no longer be accessed because nothing now available can read the medium – zip disks from my university days are now bin worthy because the 250mb Jaz disks can not be connected to my pc – the zip drive uses a connector which no computer has!

Now, the boss of Google has also joined the discussion:

“The problem is already here. In the 1980s, it was routine to save documents on floppy disks, upload Jet Set Willy from cassette to the ZX spectrum, slaughter aliens with a Quickfire II joystick, and have Atari games cartridges in the attic. Even if the disks and cassettes are in good condition, the equipment needed to run them is mostly found only in museums.”

“We are nonchalantly throwing all of our data into what could become an information black hole without realising it. We digitise things because we think we will preserve them, but what we don’t understand is that unless we take other steps, those digital versions may not be any better, and may even be worse, than the artefacts that we digitised,” Cerf told the Guardian. “If there are photos you really care about, print them out.”

North London Gujarati Engagement Photos

North London Gujarati Engagement Photos

The great thing about two people being in love within the modern age is the open-minded approach and the many cultures that look to make the union of two special people a reason to celebrate. Depending on religion, beliefs or even choice of venue, the service a couple has can vary, but are never any less spectacular.

I recently had the pleasure if being able to take some North London Gujarati engagement photos, courtesy of Ramesh and Rukhmani who got engaged at the Swaminarayan temple in Harrow.

While recognised as an Indian tradition, the ceremony can differ in different parts of the country, and even be known by a series of different names.

Indian Engagement Ceremony

Indian Engagement Ceremony

The great thing about being a photographer is not only the array of colours and centrepieces present at engagement ceremonies, but also the people in attendance. This is especially true for the Indian engagement ceremony I attended. Neeti and Vishal’s Indian engagement ceremony was held at Beth’s Grammar School, which Vishal had attended in the past.

Wedding Photographer Kent – Humanist Wedding, Margate

When you embark on a career as a photographer, it’s only a matter of time before you start capturing memories for loving couples. While conventional weddings are ideal for most people, there will be couples who need something that’s a little more tailored to their beliefs and needs. Susan and Steve are a couple who evidently love each other very much, but felt a humanist wedding was much more suitable than a religious ceremony. Many may like to capture their own special day, but feel that there may be some restrictions using wedding photographers in Kent, but this isn’t always the case. There are many ways of people showcasing their love, and I’m always happy to learn just how diverse couples are becoming when becoming a partnership.

Chimping

Chimping for Wedding Photographers

I had an interesting discussion – from a videographer who also photographs complaining that I was chimping at a recent wedding.

For those of you who don’t know – ‘chimping’ is literally looking at the screen on the back of the camera.

Now, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t chimp. Be that a photographer or a videographer. For photography, there are two types of chimping – looking at the histogram for exposure or looking at the actual image for focus or composition.

I had the pleasure of photographing Munisha and Diptesh’s Indian Engagement Ceremony. The engagement took place at the Greenwich Asian Community Centre. It was a very colourful event with over 400 guests! Lavish food and a special desert stall with a huge variety of different tongue ticklers.

It was lovley to see Munisha full of smiles. She told me beforehand how long the family had spent planning the day, so it was good that the day ran smoothly.

Maidstone Wedding Photography – Paula & Craig

Maidstone Wedding Photography – Paula & Craig

Paula & Craig got married at their local church before moving onto the Orchard wedding venue for a reception. As a recommended supplier for the Orchard, they asked if I could cover their Maidstone Wedding Photography.

A lovely couple that I met in November 2014, Paula and Craig were shy and nervous. They had a lovely teenage daughter so had spent many years before deciding to tie the knot. They were my ideal type of couple because they knew what they wanted the day to be like and said that I should try to be as discreet as possible, just to capture what happened with no influence or interference.
